No “I” required

Within the present moment

There is no I see,

I feel,

I think.

Within the present moment

There is only

Seeing

Feeling

Thinking.

And that is all that is needed,

Since this is

What we truly are.

No “I” required.

Everything

Everything that appears in front of these eyes,

All perceptions,

All feelings,

All thoughts,

Are occurring

Within the present moment.

This body,

My counterpart,

Birth, aging and death,

All the present moment.

Understanding,

Not understanding,

Confusion,

Doubt,

Impatience,

Are just the present moment.

Even the illusion of “me”

Emerges and ceases

Right here, right now.

You wish

You wishWhere can that be found which is outside the present moment?

This other than?

This more of?

I spent many years searching for it.

The goals had different names of course.

Countless pointers I apparently followed.

Today I don’t even understand why.

Back then I brushed the present moment aside,

Without even looking closely at it.

“You wish”, it says, the present moment.

“Because who could it be who can brush me aside?”

“Where could one stand to be able to see me?”

No traces whatsoever

How can you say that you have seen such a sunrise before?

Or this person that you love?

How can you say that you have smelled this scent before, have done this job before?

Every single moment is like a pristine snow-covered landscape – no traces whatsoever.

Perhaps you only hear your heart thumping.

That is absolutely sufficient.

Intimately familiar

Intimately familiarThe present moment is intimately familiar to us. Beyond concepts, beyond words, beyond the consideration if we feel good right now or not.

One part of us intuitively recognizes this connection. It is the part who just witnesses the present moment, who simply says “Yes”. “Yes, that’s how it is”. Without an agenda, without judgement.

Another part is terrified by whatever unfolds right now. Terrified to be washed away. Terrified to drown in the enormous vitality of Here and Now.

Each is OK. Each defines our human condition.

When we realize that there is no contradiction, something extraordinary happens.

Sometimes it is called authenticity. But that is a truly ridiculous term.

Rectification

Quite commonly I am using words like “within” and “beyond”. Like for example “within the present moment” or “beyond the personal story”.

Both are mere symbols though. Like notes describe music, like the finger points at the moon, these words denote the indescribable.

In actuality there is neither within nor beyond.

In actuality there aren’t any boundaries.

In actuality every word, every sentence slightly misses the indescribable.

Perhaps we should just be silent.

And again: Slightly off.

In each Instant

The present moment is in each instant –

A surprise.

An invitation

Damned funny.

Melancholic.

Unexpected energy.

Full of sudden turns.

A smile.

My best friend.

Nothing of the above.

Simply indescribable.

Solid ground under the feet

Fester BodenAs soon as the personal story is seen through, we can be fully within the present moment, dissolving in it.

No one there who would feel threatened by the present moment.

No one there who would find wrongness in the present moment.

No one there who wants to wrestle with the present moment, wanting to master it.

Could, Would, Should are seen through.

Solid ground under the feet. A fresh breeze in the nose.

What Is becomes immediately apparent.

The present moment and “me”

There is no boundary between the present moment and “you”, no contact surface over which you could touch the present moment.

“I” and the present moment – that is like colored ink poured into a glass of water. After a short time all the water is colored. Ink and water have completely mixed.

The present moment is the color quality of “me”:

“I” is the color scheme that the present moment takes on here.

Now, now, and now.

Catch 22

Everything about you that is established, inflexible or clearly defined is just a component of your small personal story.

All your strengths, all your shortcomings. All your victories, all your defeats. All your opinions, all your right and wrongs. All your character traits: Just building blocks of a petty story.

Beyond the story there is no need for stiffness, for rigidness.

Beyond the story the present moment flows calmly from Now to Now.

A part of you likes that, longs for this constantly changing liveliness.

Another part is petrified. Is terrified to question everything that you have been apparently fighting for so long. That you have been apparently suffering for so long.

And so you find yourself between a rock and a hard place. Catch 22.

And now?
